Write a blog post evaluating your overall work, how do you think your recording matches the cartoon etc. Remember the relationship between your SFX’s and the moving images, do they complement each other?
Tell me which SFX's you recorded and how you did it. Tell me which SFX's you got online and why. Are you happy with the overall result? If you were to do this assigment again would you do anything differently?
In this blog post I will evaluating the sound effects I created, and also the sounds I downloaded off the internet to use for my selected clip of Tom and Jerry. I used the clip Tom and Jerry Truce Hurts.
I believe that the sound effects i used for my clip were appropriate. Some sounds were realistic and others typical cartoon noises as I wanted it to differentiate from the stereo typical cartoon. I believe that the clip and the sound effects compliment each other as although some of the sounds are unrealistic , they make the clip believable.
The sound effects I recorded are squeaking , licking , pouring , crashing and brushing of material. I recorded the squeaking by Sophie moving her finger quickly over her teeth, I used this noise for when tom was cleaning jerry for the meal. I made the licking noise by having a cup full of water and licking the water in the cup, I used this sound when tom jerry and butch were licking the lid of the milk . I recorded the crashing noise by dropping a chair on the floor , I used this effect when toms head hit the floor. The brushing of material was made by rubbing of the trousers, and holding the recorder closely , I used this sound effect when tom pushed the blanket under jerry when they were sleeping. I made a clanging noise for when butch is putting the glasses on the table as i wanted to make it more realistic, i used a bottle of perfume and a pen. I also made a chair scraping noise for when the characters are pushing the chairs in and out of the table , i simply did this by pulling a chair across the floor. Finally the last sound effect that I used was pouring , this sound effect was used when butch is pouring each of the characters a drink, I recorded this by pouring a cup of water into an empty cup.
The sound effects I got online were a whooshing noise peaceful music for when the flower is floating into the room whilst the characters are asleep. A choking noise for when tom chokes on it, a woofing noise and meowing for butch and tom's voice's. I also downloaded a alarm , as butch turns it off when the others are sleeping. I downloaded a noise of whistling for when butch is setting up the table. Finally i also got a comical xylophone noise when tom climbs on to the chair and a comical typical cartoon running noise which i used when tom and jerry run to the dinner table.
I am extremely happy with the overall result of my cartoon, this is because I believe I worked to the best of my ability and put a lot of time and effort into it. If i were to do this project again I don't think id change anything, as I found and also created all the clips that I wanted to use.

PREPARING TO WORK WITH SFX
1. Why do you think we use SFX’s in TV and Film productions?
Sound effects are used to create a story or emphasize a point.
2. What are the advantages of using SFX’s in TV and Film productions? What do they add to the overall production?
The advantages are that they make productions more realistic and this entitles the audience to believe that what is happening is real.
3. What are the disadvantages of using SFX’s in TV and Film productions?
If the sounds are over used it becomes unrealistic to the audience
4. What is the job description of a Foley artist?
A Foley Artist is the person who creates and performs replacement sound effects to be used with a picture these are recorded in a recording studio, such as footsteps, clothing and properties’ noises, paper movement, doors creaking, dogs scratching etc. They work under the direction of a Sound Editor and often use their own extensive collection of small props. They are the unseen actors who reproduce sounds, required when the original track is either unusable or completely replaced as in the case of foreign versions."
.Now use the internet to research how the following SFX’s might be made/recorded. Write this up in a blog post called ‘Recording SFX’s’.
1. Footsteps
2. Rain (the sound of)
A rain stick (carboardtube filled with beans)
3. A person punching another person
clapping or hitting your palm close to a mic,
4. 2 more sounds of your choice
